DONNA SUMMER - I Feel Love (1977)

RIP Donna Summers: December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012

Donna Summers died today, aged 63, after a long ongoing battle with breast cancer and lung cancer.

Your music touched millions; you will be missed.

Dear god of good taste in music,

help me from my increasing enjoyment of 70s disco music.

On another note, look at those dance moves, all I see is bell-bottoms and gyrating male pelvises (and this is not necessarily a bad thing in my book).

I’m just going to sit here and pretend I grew up in the 60’s and listen to The Who all day.

Triumph GT6 MKII (1971)

One of my favorite things in the world is thinking about cars not as machines, but as answers to a specific problem, or even an idea. The Triumph GT6 came as an answer to a question I thought of last night while working:

— which car would be best to listen to The Smiths during a rainy drive?

So many came up (mostly British, go figure), but this GT6 had just the right charm for the job. It’s absolutely gorgeous without screaming about it in your face, just like so many other Michelotti designs. It constantly makes you feel like you’re in a different time which can no longer be.

And finally, you wouldn’t want to turn the volume that high anyway, there’s a six cylinder with a beautiful voice to hear as well. I don’t think Morrissey was an inline six.

My dad happens to have a Triumph GT6 MKII, which he recently de-garaged. Not being particularly into cars, I love the smell of the interior, which is a combination of car polish and leather upholstery. I hope one day I get to inherit it, although I don’t drive yet. And it’s highly unlikely to hear Morrissey’s voice coming from dad’s car, it’s more likely to hear something like Rush or Metallica (yeah, that’s the odd kind of dad I have.)

I have a confession to make: I love Italian sex comedies from the 70s, always have.
