Although Ted Bundy was initially resentful and disturbed by the intense media scrutiny given to his case, there are many signs that Bundy soon came to enjoy the attention. His refusal to consider a plea bargain in his Florida capital murder trial that could have saved his life, for example, along with his decision to represent himself in that trial can be read as a desire to take centre stage in a drama in which he was the undisputed star. After his conviction, Bundy became even more conscious of his celebrity status, reportedly boasting to psychologist Dorothy Otnow Lewis, “Do you realise I am the most celebrated inmate on death row?”
